I could hear Phoenix shuffling around in the bathroom, no doubt trying to figure out what to do first. As I had said, my house was rather large compared to what Phoenix was probably used to staying in. My bathtub was more the size of an average Jacuzzi not to mention had most of the functions of one.
I sighed heavily and plopped myself onto my loveseat. I sincerely wondered where things would go from here. Where could they go from here? After all that had happened, these long five years, what would happen next? Both of what we had believed about each other had been shattered in mere seconds.
Finally Phoenix walked out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped on his head and clean clothes on. I sat up, trying not to yawn. “Feel better?”
“We need to talk.” Phoenix said suddenly. “I… I don’t want to stay here.”
I jumped to my feet, “But Phoenix-“
“Miles.” He said, shocking me into silence. It had been a long time since he called me by my first name. “I can’t stay here.”
“Why…?” I murmured. “Why not?”
“Eventually someone will find me…” Phoenix replied his expression and voice emotionless. “I can’t deal with that.”
“Please, Phoenix…” I pleaded. “Just… stay… I promise, I’ll think of something!”
“I can’t!” Phoenix snapped suddenly, making me flinch. I felt tears sting my eyes. Had I come this far to just let him go? Could I just let him go? No… I thought. Not again… “Don’t you see?”
“Just…” the tears spilled over now, falling to the carpet. I felt like an idiot, so embarrassed to let him see my weakness like this. Then, I figured it must have been the same for Phoenix and I ignored it just as he had. “…Stay… For one night. I promise, if I don’t think of something you can leave… I just…”
I don’t want you to leave me.
“…”
I don’t want to be alone.
“…”
I couldn’t stand it if you left.
“…”
I’ve missed you so much.
“……”
“...please, don’t leave me alone again. Not again…”
And then, just as quick as I had found him, he walked away. All he did was turn and walk out the door, leaving me crumpled on the floor, holding my stomach and gasping for air. I couldn’t think, I couldn’t breath. All that was present was: He’s gone…
